To formulate policies and development programmes that will enable agric-food industry to be globally competitive, modern and sustainable.

To monitor and evaluate the implementation of policies and programmes carried out by the agencies under its purview.

To review and modify the policies and programmes when necessary.

To formulate and review the existing legislation with the view to enhance conducive agricultural development.

To initiate or undertake research for the purpose of (1), (2), (3) and (4) if necessary.

To exercise smart partnership with other agricultural agencies so that their programmes and activities are in harmony with the Ministry's policies.

To facilitate private sector participation in agriculture development.
